Anger Management
Although I have worked extensively with individuals dealing with a variety of issues, I specialize in helping those people struggling with problem anger.
What will you learn in anger counseling?
-
Understand the consequences of anger in your life.
Anger effects you and it effects those around you. Maybe your spouse has given you an ultimatum. Maybe you are starting to see your anger in your kids. Maybe it is effecting your job or your health. Maybe you have legal charges pending. Maybe you’re tired promising to change only to lose your temper yet again.
-
Why do I get so angry?
Anger often feels like it comes on so quickly. So it is important to understand the steps in the “anger process”. You will learn what happens in your brain that causes the anger and the role of the fight-or-flight response. I will teach you how to calm that response so your brain and body are better able to handle the situation.
-
Change your angry thinking.
How we think and what we think play a big role in all of our emotions, including anger. Do you “make mountains out of molehills”? Do you get angry when people don’t act the way you think they should? You will learn the common types of thoughts that lead to anger and what to do about them.
-
Communicate your anger effectively.
“It’s not what you say but how you say it”. Not all anger is bad. Sometimes you might have good reason to be mad but maybe it comes out in a way that just makes the situation worse. Learn how to express your anger in ways that work.
-
Shame and self-esteem
Learning techniques to cool your anger in the moment is important. But for many people that is not enough. Maybe you’ve tried on your own to change your anger, read some books or even had some therapy in the past. If you feel like you are still not where you want to be, there is a chance some underlying issues still need addressed.
-
And lots more.
Most people with problem anger have struggled with it for a long time. If you have thought about getting help before but just keep putting it off, you are not alone. You are here now because how you get angry is still causing problems in your life. Together we can change that.
